We’ve officially arrived at South by Southwest 2015, and we’re ready to roll.

This year, Powerhouse is participating in the festival on multiple levels. We’re boothing it up with the world’s best gig poster artists at Flatstock 48—and for the very first time, we’re hosting a music showcase with a killer lineup anchored by Kevin Devine and the Goddamn band. We teamed up with our good friends at SweetWater Brewing Co. to throw the two-day musical bash.

And we’re putting more boots on the ground than ever before. Our team will be observing best-in-class brand activations, inspired by music and culture.

Flatstock 48

This marks the 9th year that Powerhouse will pop up at SXSW, and for good reason. From pulling prints to building brands, our passion for music and art makes us who we are. And it all started with rock posters. Want to drop in and show us what keeps Austin weird? Stop by Flatstock 48 and bother the crew in bolt shirts—especially Brian Bergen, the burly bearded guy peddling hundreds of rock posters. Headed up by the American Poster Institute, Flatstock runs through March 21st and showcases the very best works from artists in the gig poster community.

Okay, who’s ready to party?

The Showcase

If you’re in the Austin area, join us for BAM! The Future of Rock and Roll Vol 1 and Vol 2 on Friday and Saturday nights. Inspired by the infamous 97X alt rock station (a Cincinnati and Austin staple), our showcase features 18 acts, including Kevin Devine and the Goddamn Band, Royal Teeth, Vanishing Life, Gal Pals and Multimagic. Come see us and let our resident rock star, Seb Schultz, buy you a beer. We’re pretty amped about our showcase—and apparently so are the thousands of people who RSVPed in record time.

SXSW: A Playground for Brand Enculturation

As a convergence of music, art, culture, and tech, SXSW is more than just a sounding (and diving) board for bands, artists and filmmakers. It’s a playground for brand enculturation, a way for brands to connect with consumers in new, relevant and more meaningful ways. You know—that thing we do every day.

“From bands to brands, our passion for music and art makes us who we are. Our passion for music always led us.”

– Pat Jones, PHF Co-Founder

We’re hip to the fact that musicians and bands really get how to make a great brand. We’ve helped them do that for 10 years now. It’s what makes us so passionate about embedding brands in culture and culture in brands. At SXSW, brands have countless ways to do just that. It’s a living, breathing sample group where native and branded conversations lead to activations that people actually care about.

Looking Ahead

Every year we learn something new at SXSW. And we always find ways to put the knowledge to good use for the benefit of our clients and the bands we work with. This year, our goal is to observe the means and methods by which social-era brands interact with consumers—and to return with powerful examples of those interactions. Our findings will help us further enculturate brands in the communities they serve.

Stay tuned to see how.
